ECLECL Exam provides standardized assessments for EU member states and applicant countries’ languages. Currently, it examines 15 different languages- Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Bulgarian, Russian, Croatian, Czech, English, French, German, Polish, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, and Spanish.
The ECL language tests use a four-level structure for evaluating your language command – German Language A2 Level, B1, B2, and C1 level with 4 crucial components -oral, writing, listening, and reading.
As a part of your visa application, you need to be proficient in the German language and must have B1 or B2 certificate. The German language bodies – Goethe, Telc, ÖSD, and ECL have been accepted by ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe).

In the speaking section of the exam, students can select their partner based on their comfort level. Here, no student is asked to sit with a random partner. This reduces the level of stress level on the students. In the writing exam, students can enter the exam with a German–German or German-any other language dictionaries. No digital dictionary is allowed. It is similar to an open-book examination. Note that it must be a general dictionary and nothing manually must be written on it. The practical side is that when you are not sure about a word or two while writing an essay, you have the privilege to use a dictionary during an exam.
In the listening section, two parts get repeated twice. Try to answer all the questions after the first listening so you can use the second listening to check or correct your answers. You are free to take notes during your listening test. The practical side: Grammatical mistakes do not count as mistakes if it is understandable and clear.
In the reading section, all answers can be short and to the point. So, read the whole text before completing your task. You don’t have to lift a complete sentence or entire paragraph from the text to answer the question. The practical side is that this section is focusing on comprehension, not your writing skills, so short answers can be accepted to prove that the sections are understood.
